Senior Living

Seniors are involved in the active life of the Shorefront YM-YWHA community. Whether they are participating in virtual tours, cultural events, hybrid clubs and classes, or seeking social services, seniors can find themselves very active and busy here.

Social Services for Seniors

We have developed a full on-site Senior Social Services program to enhance the physical and mental well-being of seniors.

We encourage seniors to be active and healthy through our community-based social, health, and related support services. We help individuals and families navigate the social service system, assist with crisis intervention and inform clients about the community and government resources that are available to them. We strive to help seniors to be more independent and socially engaged, to stay in place and live happier, more fulfilled, and meaningful lives within their community.

NNORC BRIGHT-ON THE OCEAN

NNORC Bright-on the Ocean at the Shorefront YM-YWHA is a community resource program that enables our neighbors, 60 years of age and older, to stay healthy and happy in our community. The program offers services at the Shorefront Y and members’ homes. We currently serve residents living in the area between Coney Island Avenue (west side of the street) to Ocean Parkway (east side of the street) and from Brightwater Court to Brighton Beach Avenue. Since July 2019, we have also provided services to seniors residing in another, distinct geographic area - Census Tract 610.04, bordered by West End Avenue and Shore Boulevard on the East; Brighton Beach Avenue, Gerald H. Cambers Sq., and Oriental Boulevard on the South; Neptune Avenue on the North; and the B/Q Subway tracks on the West. This program is called “Bright-on the Ocean II”.

The NNORC Program provides integrated, culturally and linguistically sensitive services to local seniors (including homebound) and promotes socialization, community building, education, preventive health strategies, and life enrichment.
