Our Pre-K program unites teachers, students, and parents on an educational journey together, reaching academic success, social – emotional fulfillment, and unforgettable memories!
The Shorefront Y’s Pre-K For All provides a FREE 6 hour and 20 minute high-quality program for children who were born in 2019. Our thematic interdisciplinary units and daily activities aligned to the NYS Prekindergarten Early Learning Standards and are based on the Creative Curriculum. Each thematic unit of study is a set of hands-on activities which are integrated through all subject areas: math, science, language arts, arts, social studies, and physical activities. They are organized into the following five domains of development:
· Approaches to Learning
· Physical Development and Health
· Social and Emotional Development
· Communication, Language, and Literacy
· Cognition and Knowledge of the World
Our Pre-K For All program adopted New York Citywide Pre-Kindergarten Readiness Goals that outline the developmentally appropriate knowledge and skills that children should demonstrate by the end of the academic year. Play is an essential part of our childhood and integral part of our curriculum. Learning through play provides children enormous opportunities for self-discovery, exploring, discovering, questioning, guessing, predicting, and becoming active decisions makers and active learners.
Meals are served to all children attending our program. We provide Kosher, healthy, nutritious, delicious and freshly made breakfast, hot Lunch and snacks every day. We offer a large variety of food. We serve meat three times a week, dairy twice a week and fresh vegetables and fruits daily. Soup is served four times a week. Our goal is to help our children develop healthy eating habits for life. We make sure that the food offered at each meal and snack time contributes toward our children’s health.
A “Wrap Around” option is available for parents who would like to enroll their children in the Shorefront Y full-day Preschool program at a discounted rate.
The Wrap Around Enrichment program supports, extends, and enriches our academic curriculum, with a main focus on math and language arts. We bring Jewish values and traditions into the everyday lives of our program. Family-style holiday celebrations and children’s performances are an integral part of our curriculum as well.
The Shorefront YM-YWHA Preschool is licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene / Bureau of Day Care. 3-K For All and Pre-K For All programs are contracted by the New York City Department of Education. All group teachers, assistant teachers and all staff working with children meet the requirements set by the NYC Department of Health and NYC Department of Education and are fingerprinted and screened for a comprehensive background check for child abuse and criminal record.
