Students will learn the basics of melody, rhythm, and vocal production. During the class, they will sing warm up exercises, learn and memorize words and music notes for the songs, peer listening and may learn to sing in split voices. There will be performing opportunities during the year at our events and celebrations.
Rita Mitsel, principal oboe of Symphony in C, earned her doctorate at the Juilliard School. Ms. Mitsel has performed as a substitute in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the American Ballet Theater, the Brooklyn Philharmonic and in The Phantom of the Opera.
As a soloist, she performed with Orion String Quartet, Mannes Orchestra, Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players and on Bargemusic, among others. She has recorded for Naxos with International Contemporary Ensemble and Symphony in C. Rita teaches oboe and chamber music at Queens College (CUNY). She holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degrees from Mannes College of Music.
