Shorefront Y in the News
As part of our continuing commitment to helping those in need, Shorefront Y's recent work to help improve the lives of several members of the community was featured in the New York Times. "A Giver to the Community Learns to Accept Its Help" illustrates how Shorefront Y, along with colleagues, friends and family came to aid of one of our staff members, Carolina Martinez. Our agency was able to help her and her family start anew after a series of financial setbacks. Also, "Giving Their Children a Place to Lay Their Heads" features the Vartsaba family. Y Green Tips
Light a Hanukkah candle and change a bulb
If every household replaced its most commonly used incandescent light bulbs with CFLs, electricity use for lighting could be cut in half. CFLs last 8 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs and use only a 1/4 of the energy to produce the same amount of light, a modern Hanukkah miracle!
In honor of Jewish Social Action Month, on Nov. 20, teens from the Shorefront Y Teen Dept. changed over 100 CFL light bulbs in Brighton Beach seniors' homes. Funding has been generously provided by the UJA Federation of NY.
