CLASSES

Little Artists

Ages 4-6
In this class children will learn how to draw their favorite animals and people using simple and familiar shapes. Children will be able to reproduce an image on their own and learn how to make a collage. This fun class will boost each child’s self-esteem, develop fine motor skills, focus their attention, and help bring out their artistic talents.

Ages 7-9
This art class is aimed at making drawing a successful experience for children. Our program is a series of art lessons that gives children the skills needed to discover their talents and embrace their artistic abilities. The sessions will be divided into three groups of classes. The first set is called “The Jungle book”; during these classes children will learn how to draw exotic animals and birds. The second set is “The Nemo world” teaching them how to draw fish and ocean creatures, and finally, “People and Movement” where children will learn to draw portraits and people in motion.

Computer Programming, Game Design and Animation

Children will learn simple computer programming using two programs designed for beginners: Microsoft Basic and Scratch. These programs will teach students how to write and design a simple computer program. As the students progress, they will be able to create their own video games and animations which they can upload and share with others on the Internet. These programs will also give students the fundamentals of program design that they can later apply in designing more complex programs such as applications for tablets.

PJ Library Adventures Theater Class

Imagination takes flight in this fun introduction to creative drama. Using theater games, stories, movement and song, students bring to life Jewish bedtime stories along with other favorite stories while developing skills in active listening, speaking in public, cooperation and creative self-expression.

Young Voices Musical Class

Children will learn rhythm, breathing technique, intonation, tone production, diction, phrasing and ear training while learning unison and simple two-part songs. They will also learn simple music instruments and play musical games and participate in mini shows during the class. The culmination of the program will be a talent showcase.

Theater Performance Class

Students will learn the fundamentals of acting in a fun, supportive and creative atmosphere. Through theater games and improvisation, students will concentrate on the basics of acting: the who, where, why and how. They will learn to overcome shyness and develop public speaking skills and stage presence. Students will then apply these skills and concepts to basic scene work. This class will include stage productions.

Mommy and Me - Music and Movement for Tots

Sing, move and play percussion instruments while learning new songs, meeting new friends, and sharing the joy of music. This class introduces the basic elements of music like beat, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, pitch, etc. through movement games, stories, and songs that help lay the musical foundation.

Music and Movement for Tots (without parent or caregiver)

Fun Tapestry Class

Learn the basic hand weave technique and be able to create functional and beautiful projects like wrist bands, phone pouches and other items. This class will also give your child the benefit of developing their fine motor skills, color coordination, creating a pattern and improvement of concentration. Use these fun creations for yourself or share it with your friends and family.

“Zshuk” Artist and Me (Classes in Art, Music and Drama)



Artist and Me is a new and exciting program that emphasizes Jewish learning, art and pedagogy in a fun environment. The class curriculum has connections to beautiful Jewish texts, stories, multidisciplinary art and teaches children to think deeply, flexibly, and imaginatively. As a result, children are able to construct a very personal connection to Judaism, express themselves and to become self-reliant, creative and independent thinkers. At the end of the program everyone will participate in a spectacular theatrical performance show for the entire family.

Happy Family – Social Skills Group

The goal of the Social Skills Group is to assist children in developing social skills by teaching strategies for: active listening, conversational skills, responding appropriately to social cues, identifying personal feelings and understanding the emotions of others. This class will help with problem solving for conflict situations, compromising, sharing, being a good sport, negative thoughts and management of feelings, anger and frustration management and how to respond to and handle teasing and bullying.

Group Piano

This class will offer introduction to rhythm, ear training and basic musical concepts. Through counting and alphabet games, a range of sounds and songs, children will gain basic keyboard knowledge and will be able to play simple melodies. The final class of the semester will be open to parents and friends.

Haverim (Friends) Fun Circle (taught in Russian)

Taught in Russian, this class helps each child explore the world in his or her own way, while developing their skills and learning about Jewish culture. This class weaves together arts & craft, dance, theater, and story time with Israeli and Jewish cultural education. This one of a kind multi disciplinary experience will surely capture your child’s imagination.

Sew Your Way (Class for Beginners)

Children will learn basic sewing techniques using simple hand needle projects. This class is great for developing hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Our students will be proud to use their creations or give them as presents to family and friends. This class will also serve as an introduction for the next level class where children will create their own clothing and accessories, and will show off their couture creations on a runway at the end-of-the-program Fashion Show.

Creative Movement Dance Class

This class incorporates the fundamental concepts of dance within a fun, age-appropriate framework aimed at developing both creativity and skills. Through creative movement, props and music, children discover and explore basics of dance such as space, time, effort/energy and shape. The class starts with stretches and body awareness and strength building exercises and continues to explore different qualities of movement through structured movement, free dance, and moving across the floor. Much focus is given to rhythm and learning how to interpret music with movement and to giving children freedom of expression. Children gain self-esteem, learn listening skills, leadership and teamwork skills and refine locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Props such as hoops, scarves, streamers and occasional stories enhance coordination and enjoyment.

Modern Dance Class

This class will introduce children to the fundamental skills of modern dance with an emphasis on quality and expansion of movement. Body, posture, and movement awareness are stressed along with technique. Structured dance exercises along with improvisations allow students to discover their own natural and expressive movement.

Children will get an introduction to modern dance and some of its legends (Martha Graham, Lester Horton, José Limon, and others) by learning basic premises such as the contraction, fall and recovery, release. Emphasis is on fun with moving in different ways-expanding movement repertoire and gaining basic technique.

Guitar Group Class

This class will introduce students learn everything from the different ways to hold the instrument to scales chords as well as some music theory. By the end of the semester students are usually able to play a few short passages and in some cases full songs. The beginning course is more about getting the student playing and slowly introduces additional concepts as necessary. There is a possibility for a more advanced level.
